Context
Organizations running SAP ECC with IS‑U face limitations when trying to modernize field operations. To avoid adding more custom code, a clean‑core approach is adopted: keep SAP lean while building agile, mobile-friendly apps outside the ERP. This allows technicians to work efficiently without modifying the core system.
Challenges
Field technicians lack a simple way to view tasks, record work, and upload proof on the go. Managers also need better visibility into technician skills and availability to assign jobs effectively. Traditional SAP screens are not mobile-friendly and require multiple steps to access service orders, materials, and timesheets.
Solution
A mobile Technician Work Companion app is built using a digital twin sidecar strategy, keeping SAP as the system of record. Technicians can view assignments, capture GPS and timesheet details, upload photos, and track repairs instantly from their device. Managers get a clear view of each technician’s expertise and availability for quick task assignment. Service orders, inventory items, and task details are all easily accessible, enabling fast, accurate field execution,without adding any SAP customizations.
